Outgoing Ghana President, John Dramani Mahama has ordered the Ministry of Youth and Sports to pay all outstanding allowances for the National Women’s Teams, Black Queens and Black Princesses.
The Minister of Youth and Sports Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuyie confirmed this on Kumasi based station Nhyira FM. He said the President told him to ensure all outstanding allowances due the Women’s teams are paid before they leave office on January 7th for the new government.
The Queens threatened the Ministry that they would embark on demonstration after their allowances for tickets were not paid on time.
The National Women’s Team placed 3rd in the just ended African Women’s Cup of Nations held in Cameroun and won by Nigeria’s Super Falcons.
The Princesses also featured for Ghana in the recently held FIFA Women’s Under 20 World in Papua New Guinea where they were eliminated at the group stages. Their qualification bonuses have still not been paid.
The President also gave a similar order when the Queens demanding their bonuses after winning Gold in the last All African Games. They vehemently decided not to leave the team hotel after touching down with the gold medal until their allowances were paid them.
A big appreciation to the outgoing President for settling this impasse before his departure for a stitch in time saves nine.
