The 11th game of the Total African Cup of Nations 2017 saw a North African showdown as Tunisia played Algeria at Franceville. The Cartilage Eagles stood tall winning 2-1 to record their first win of the tournament.
A cross from eventual Total Man of the Match, Youssef Msakni was turned into his own net by Issa Mandi before a foul on Wabi Kahzri by Ghoulam was neatly converted by Naime Slitti.
Tunisia held firm after the two goal lead to keep a clean sheet but Algeria were not to be denied a consolation as a cross from Watford’s bound, Guediora was turned in by Sofiane Hanni.
The game ended 2-1 in favour of Tunisia sending them to 3 points with a game to play against Zimbabwe. A win/draw depending on other results will send Tunisia through.
Algeria on the other hand needs to beat Senegal and hope other results go their way to stand any chance of progressing to the next stage.
Next up in Franceville is the next Group B game between Zimbabwe and Senegal in an hour’s time.
