Ivory Coast international and forward, Salomon Kalou has called time on his national team career after the defending champions failed to advance at the group stages.
The former Chelsea man who plays for Hertha BSC in the German Bundesliga could not propel his nation to defend the title they won in 2015 at Equatorial Guinea after beating Ghana 9-8 on penalties. The Elephants who were favourites coming into the 2017 AFCON could only pick two points from their three group games thus an early exit at the tournament.
Kalou made his international debut in 2007 and has gone on to make 90 appearances for the Elephants scoring 30 goals. He was also part of the 2008 Olympic team of Ivory Coast.
Kalou calls quit on the national team after failing to help Ivory Coast advance to the quarter finals of the 2017 AFCON.
