The FIFA council decided to suspend the Malian Football Association because of governmental interference effective as of March 17th 2017.
The FEMAFOOT has been suspended by the World Governing body from all competitions and until further notice.
The decision has been taken due to governmental interference in the association’s activities.
The suspension has been triggered by the actions taken by Mr Housseïni Amion Guind, Sports minister of Mali.
Mr. Amion Guind dissolved the executive committee of the federation on March 8th. He then appointed an interim committee, that was intended to run the association up until a new executive committee is elected.
FIFA warned the Malian association that this decision should be taken back immediately as their shouldn’t be third parties included in managing FEMAFOOT’s affairs.
They also clarified that the ban will be lifted once the minister’s decisions are annulled.
As a result to this suspension, as of Friday March 17th, no team from Mali, whether a club or a National Team, can take part in international competitions of any sort until the ban is lifted.
