INDIAN WELLS DAY 8 REVIEW

Day eight of the BNP Paribas Open saw France’s Kristina Mladenovic reach the semi finals at Indian Wells after beating former champion Caroline Wozniacki to break into the world’s top 20.

The 23-year-old seeded 28th beat Wozniacki 3-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 to reach the semi finals and will face Russia’s Elena Vesnina who saw off Serena Williams elder sister, Venus Williams 6-2 4-6 6-3.

Kristina Mladenovic added Wozniacki to seven time Grand Slam champion, Venus Williams, Karolina Pliskova and Simona Halep to the list she has swept off in 2017.

Wozniacki started well and led 5-1 but Mladenovic  came in strongly to win the tie.

She said after the game;

“I was frustrated with the beginning of the match.”

“I was hitting a lot of unforced errors and you can’t do that against a top player like Caroline.

“I felt like I had to adjust to this huge court. It feels different to play out here after hiding out on the small courts. I just tried to stay positive and fight like always.”

In the Men’s division, 31 year old Stan Wawrinka reached the semi-finals for the first time after beating Dominic Thiem 6-4 4-6 7-6 (7-2).

The Swiss needed two and a half hours to beat the eight seeded Austrian.

Wawrinka will face Spanish Pablo Carreno Busta who beat Uruguay’s Pablo Cuevas 6-1 3-6 7-6 (7-4).
