Technical Director of the Ghana Football Association, Francis Oti Akenteng, has said that it will be impossible for the Black Stars of Ghana to qualify ahead of Egypt in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
But the Technical Director of The Ghana Football Association insists it is impossible for the Black Stars to qualify ahead of Egypt but that, they will do their possible best in the remaining matches.
“It’s not an easy task to qualify ahead of Egypt. If we (Ghana) were leading Egypt by five points, we wouldn’t have allowed them to qualify ahead of us so they won’t allow us to qualify too,” Oti Akenteng explained on Kumasi-based Boss Fm.
“Despite how difficult it’ll be, we will still try our possible best to qualify for the World Cup. We should be hopeful that we will win our remaining matches and hope of qualifying,” he added.
Ghana was placed in Group D of the World Cup qualifiers in Africa and are five points behind leaders Egypt, who have six points.
The Black Stars fluffed their chances of qualifying, after drawing goalless with Uganda and also losing 2-0 away to Egypt.
The Black Stars are on the verge of missing out on qualification to the global competition having appeared in the last three editions.
Ghana will need to win their remaining four matches and rely on other results to qualify for the World Cup.
