Johanna Konta of Britain has reached the semi finals of the 2017 Miami Open after producing a superb battling display to dispatch Simona Halep from Romania.
The third seed Romanian could not stand the prowess of the Briton who was spectacular on the day. Konta gave up the only break of the first set but raced to a 3-0 lead in the secondduly winning 3-6 7-6 (9-7) 6-2.
Johanna Konta with the win will face Venus Williams in the semi finals.
The American, 38, beat German Angelique Kerber 7-5 6-3 to reach the semi finals.
The winner of Konta and Williams showdown will face Caroline Wozniacki or Karolina Pliskova which is the other semi final game.
Konta was delighted at reaching the semi finals at the expense of Halep saying;
“I went up to a 3-0 lead and had chances to go 4-0 up, but she’s an incredible player and I knew it wouldn’t be over until we shook hands.”
“I’m really happy to have come through and am looking forward to the next round,” Konta reiterated. “It’s going to be a tough one.”
