BROADY REACHES SECOND ROUND OF MONTERREY OPEN

Naomi Broady of Briain beat American Catherine Bellis to reach the second round of the Monterrey Open n Mexico.

The British number two won 7-6 (9-7) 6-4 to secure her second WTA Tour win of the year.

The win over Bellis means Naomi will face Hungarian Timea Babos or Dutch Lesley Kerkhove in the nest round.

In other games, defending champion, Heather Watson defeated Serb Nina Stojanovic 6-2 6-7 (7-9) 6-4 to reach the second round while Canadian Eugenie Bouchard, a former Wimbledon finalist suffered her fifth successive defeat as she was beaten by Sara Sorribes Tormo from Spain 7-6 (10-8) 6-3. Bouchard is yet to win a single game this year since the Australian Open.

Angelique Kerber who occupies the first spot in the WTA rankings will take to the court to face Francesca Schiavone from Italy.
