2017 Miami Open winner and World number seven, Johanna Konta is set to miss next week’s Charleston due to injury and illness.
Konta beats Caroline Wozniacki to win the Miami Open last week. The title win at Miami saw Konta who was ranked 150th in the world in June 2015 moved incredibly to 7th in less than two years.
The 25 year old Briton will miss the clay-court season opener as she indicated that she was battling both during her run to victory in last week’s Miami Open.
She is quoted as saying;
“[Charleston] is a great tournament and I was really looking forward to taking part.”
“I was battling a slight shoulder injury and sickness during Miami which has taken hold since the end of the tournament.”
Konta was to have been the highest-ranking player competing in the Charleston but her withdrawal means Madison Keys of America, ranked 11th is the highest-ranked player for Charleston.
