CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE – TUESDAY MATCHES WRAP UP

Tuesday’s action in the CAF Champions League was headlined by an impressive away win for Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

The Red Devils had stumbled in Matchday 1 by drawing 0-0 at home to Zanaco, but on Tuesday afternoon they jumped to the top of Group D with a 2-0 victory in Garoua against Cameroon giants Coton Sport.

Quickfire goals early in the game from Junior Ajayi and Moamen Zakaria sealed the victory for Ahly, who will hope Zanaco can prevent Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca from reclaiming top spot when they meet later today.

In Addis Ababa, hosts Saint George were unable to capitalise on Tunisia’s Esperance de Tunis being down to 10 men for a quarter of the match as they played to a goalless draw in their Group C clash.

It was the same story in Group A between Mozambique’s Ferroviario Beira and Sudan’s Al Hilal, with the teams playing to a 0-0 stalemate in Maputo.

The group’s other match saw Etoile Sahel defeat Al Merrikh 2-1 in Omdurman thanks to a late goal from Hameur Bouazza, which means the former go clear at the top of the standings with six points.

Finally, in Group B, Egyptian giants Zamalek were held 0-0 in neutral Tunisia by Libyan side Al Ahli Tripoli. This hands USM Alger the chance to go clear at the top of the log if they win away to Zimbabwe’s CAPS United on Wednesday.

Matchday 2 in the group stage will be completed on Wednesday with three further matches across the continent.
