The Black Starlets of Ghana reached the finals of the 2017 U17 AFCON as they beat Niger 6-5 on penalties after a stalemate in regulation time.

The Black Starlets went into the game on the back of finishing first in Group A, scoring nine and conceding none. Niger on the other hand finished as runners up in Group B after beating Tanzania 1-0.

Ghana started on the front foot and should have been leadin by one or two goals in the first half but were undone by poor finishing and the heroics of Niger goalkeeper, Khaled Lawali Ibrahim who made spectacular saves to deny Ayiah, Iddris among others.

The match was not to be settled in regulation time as chances went begging especially on the part of the Starlets. Niger had their own and hit the top of the post after a freekick was sent back to Sumaila. His thunderous strike beat goalkeeper Ibrahim in post for Ghana but not the post.

The final whistle was blown and needed penalty to separate the two sides.

Ghana scored 6 out of the 7 they played with Niger scoring 5 out of the 7 played to ensure Ghana becomes the first team to book their place in Sunday’s final at Libreville.

Congratulations to Paa Kwesi Fabin and his boys for qualifying to the final
