OFFICIAL: YAYA TOURE EXTENDS HIS STAY AT MANCHESTER CITY TILL 2018

Ivorian international, Yaya Toure has extended his stay at Manchester City till 2018 after signing a one year deal.

Yaya Toure joined Manchester City in 2010 and his new deal will keep him at the club for the eight season. His contract was due to expire at the end of this month.

He became a peripheral figure under Pep Guardiola’s early days at the Manchester club but fought his way through and became an integral member of the squad that finished 3rd in the Premier League this season after his brace helped Manchester City to a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace. He finished the season with seven goals from 31 appearances.

His arrival from Barcelona has given City five major domestic trophies, including the Premier League title in 2012 and 2014.

He told the club’s official website;

“I’m delighted. I told myself the journey at City is not done and when I received a call from [director of football] Txiki Begiristain and talked to the manager I was very delighted.

“When I was first coming here I was trying to be part of a new story, of something special at this club. I am very lucky now to be part of a great club with great players around me who are helping me to achieve my targets.

“Of course I want to win trophies, that is very important to me. I want to enjoy it at this age still and remaining here is a massive, massive thing. It is a great club, going in the right direction with new players who are coming in. Our mentality is always to win week in, week out and I’m delighted with the fans as well.”

Txiki Begristain who is the director of football at City also said;

Toure contract extension adds to City summer arrivals as they have already secured the services of Bernardo Silva from AS Monaco and are looking to break the world record fee for a goalkeeper to bring in Ederson from Benefica.
