Ghanaian international, Sulley Ali Muntari has rated former Black Stars Captain and now technical coordinator of the Black Stars, Stephen Appiah higher than current captain, Asamoah Gyan in terms of leadership qualities.
The Pescara player who recently suffered a racist abuse played with both players before he was handed an indefinite suspension in the senior nation team after the World Cup in 2014.
Stephen Appiah became captain of the Black Stars in 2004 leading the country to its maiden World Cup in 2006 and also to South Africa in 2010. His tenure saw must coordination and cordiality in the national team.
Sulley Muntari was full of praise for the former Juventus player crediting him for making the Black Stars competitive and attractive during his tenure rating him over Asamoah Gyan who now wears the armband.
The 28 year old former AC and Inter player told Bola Ray on Star Chat saying;
“Stephen by far because Asamoah is just a young one, Stephen had been there for so long, he made the Black Stars”.
“He (Appiah) was amazing on the pitch and off the pitch”.
“He made sure that we were comfortable around him, he was an amazing leader”.
“Asamoah is doing his best but Appiah is way ahead”, he continued.
