OFFICIAL: MANCHESTER UNITED SIGNS ROMELU LUKAKU FOR INITIAL £75M

Manchester United has officially signed Romelu Lukaku from Everton for an initial fee of £75m after completing personal terms and medicals on Saturday. He has signed a five year deal with Jose Mourinho’s team.

The English club announced on Saturday that they have agreed a fee with the Toffees pending personal agreement and medicals and they have finalised the deal today.

The deal to bring the 24 year old Belgian is worth £75m and could increase to £90m based on clauses inserted in his contract. His contract also include an option for another year.

The Belgian sent a farewell message to his Everton teammates ahead of his move to Old Trafford saying it was a ‘honour’ playing for the Merseyside club.

He said after signing the contract with Manchester United; “When Manchester United and Jose Mourinho come knocking at the door, it is an opportunity of a lifetime and one that I could not turn down”.

“I cannot wait to run out at Old Trafford in front of 75,000 fans”, the 24 year old indicated.

Jose Mourinho was the manager that sold Romelu Lukaku to Everton and has bought him back to Manchester United, the club he is managing. When ask why Lukaku, the Portuguese answered;

“Romelu is a natural fit for Manchester United. He is a big personality and a big player.”

“It is only natural that he wants to develop his career at the biggest club”.

“He will be a great addition to the group. I am really looking forward to working with him again”, he added.

  1. With two goals against Hull City in March, Lukaku became the first Everton player since Gary Lineker in 1985-86 to score 20 league goals in a season.
  2. Lukaku is also only the fourth player to score more than 80 goals in the Premier League before turning 24 (after Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and Rooney).
  3. He has scored more goals than any other Everton player in Premier League history (68).
  4. Lukaku is one of only three players to have scored more than 10 goals in each of the past five Premier League seasons (alongside Olivier Giroud and Sergio Aguero).
