World number one and top seed Angelique Kerber has lost the last 16 tie at the 2017 Wimbledon after been beaten by Spaniard Garbine Muguruza.
The loss means the German will lose the world number one spot currently held. Kerber needed to reach the final of the 2017 Wimbledon if she was to hold to her number one spot after her abysmal performance since winning the US Open in 2016.
Muguruza, 23, seeded 14th beat the German 4-6 6-4 6-4 at Court Two and will face Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia on Tuesday.
Romanian Simona Halep who is scheduled to face Johanna Konta can take over from Angelique Kerber if she is able to make the semis. Other than that Czech Republican Karolina Pliskova will occupy the spot despite her second round exit at the 2017 Wimbledon.
