France’s Women national team centre back, Jessica Houara has indicated that her ambition is to win the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Olympique Lyonnais player who recently won the treble with the French side after securing the French League title, the French Cup and the UEFA Women’s Champions League has indicated that she will only achieve her full potential as a player when she is able to win the FIFA Women’s World Cup with Les Bleues of France.
Houara has previously played for Celtic de Marseille, Saint Etienne and Paris St. Germain before joining Olympique Lyonnais last season. She has 58 caps to her name for her national team but the only trophy she could boast of before last season was the French Cup won in 2010 with PSG.
She told FIFA.com about her aims and what will make her very happy. She said; “When I signed for Lyon last summer, the aim was to win trophies. We won three, and so I’ve very much achieved what I set out to do”. “I’ve obviously not got any regrets, even though I must admit that it was heart-breaking to leave PSG”.
She had set sights on PSG even when playing for Marseille and said; “Winning silverware wasn’t my main goal- that came later”.
“My career has progressed gradually. After my first two clubs, PSG enabled me to make a living out of football and to become part of the French national set-up. Lyon, and a real hunger for success, came afterwards”, she continued.
“I still believe that trophies and medals don’t necessarily equate to the quality of a player. They’re great, of course, and that’s something I’ve got some experience of now, but feeling like you fit well within a club is another thing altogether. It’s a different form of job satisfaction. You just have to look at Francesco Totti to see what I mean!, she added.
France will host the next FIFA World Cup in 2019 and Houara has indicated that she has set her ambition on winning the World Cup with her national team. She said; “Winning the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France in two years’ time is my ultimate dream”.
“But any kind of honour with Les Bleues would also bring me great joy”, she added.
Houara’s dream to win a major trophy with the French national team can be achieved soon if France can go all the way to win the 2017 UEFA Women’s Championship to be hosted by Netherlands.
When she was told of the upcoming tournament, Jessica said; “We’ll go into the tournament with our feet on the ground”.
“Our goal is to do better than we did during our last two appearances, that is getting beyond the quarter-finals. If we reach the semis, then we can allow ourselves to start dreaming”, the centre back reiterated.
France have been paired in a group containing Austria, Iceland and Switzerland at the 2017 UEFA Women’s Championship to start on 16th July in the Netherlands.
