Former Managing Director of Accra Hearts of Oak, Neil-Armstrong Mortagbe has indicated that Ghana should erect a statue for Asamoah Gyan.
He also noted that the ex Sunderland forward would have had a monument erected for him if he had played for another country.
Mortagbe, who doubles as a FIFA Marketing Consultant believes the 31 year old has not been given the needed recognition despite all the feats he has done for the country.
He told GhOneTV Football Legends Night Show; “I think Ghanaians are making too much of a meal from Asamoah Gyan and the penalty issues”.
“The young man is a legend of Ghana football as far as I’m concerned and we don’t celebrate him enough”, he added.
“We all feel pain when we miss penalties. But for crying out loud, Asamoah Gyan will have a statue erected in his image in another country for what he has done for this nation and they will be hailing him”, the FIFA Marketing Consultant continued.
Asamoah Gyan who aside football engages in philanthropic events is the country’s all time record goalscorer with 51 goals and holds the record for most goals scored at the FIFA World Cup (6) surpassing the record held by Roger Milla of Cameroon (5).
The FIFA Marketing Consultant also showered praise on the strong attitude of the New Kayserispor forward saying; “He’s got a very strong spirit otherwise he would have stopped playing for Ghana long ago”.
