Maritzburg United have signed goalkeeper Jethren Barr to deputize Ghanaian shot-stopper Richard Ofori who joined the South African club last week.
The former Bidvest Wits goalkeeper has signed for the PSL club on a four-year contract on Monday to add more width to the goalkeeping department of the club.
Barr, 21, who is a former Stellenbosch FC goalkeeper, is the second shot stopper to join the club following Richards Ofori’s arrival last week.
Jethren Barr who was an academy product at Bidvest Wits saw less action and was loaned to Cape Town last season after spending four seasons at the club. The South African international has been on trials with Maritzburg for the past three weeks and has joined the club to help revatalise his career.
”We have signed him on a four-year contract,” club chairman Farook Kadodia tells Kickoff.com.
Maritzburg United, who saw Virgil Vries leaving at end of last season after his contract expired, have signed Barr to compete with Richard Ofori and Bongani Mpandle in the post for the start of the season.
The season for Maritzburg will start with an MTN 8 quarter-finals against Mamelodi Sundowns.
