Spanish Football Federation president Angel Maria Villar has resigned from his positions at the vice president of both UEFA and FIFA.
The Spanish Football boss who was suspended by Fifa for not cooperating with an inquiry was recently arrested alongside his son Gorka Villar for counts of corruption.
Angel Maria Villar was the acting president of UEFA after the suspension of president Michel Platini and stood for the UEFA Presidential elections which was eventually won by Slovenian Aleksander Čeferin.
The former Athletic Bilbao and Spainish midfielder has heralded the Spanish Football Federation for more than 29 years and on Thursday have handed in his resignation with UEFA reporting that his letter have been accepted by UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin.
UEFA said in a statement; “Villar will no longer have any official functions at our organisation”.
“In view of the ongoing court proceedings in Spain, we have no further comments to make on this matter”, the statement continued.
Villar is also suspended by the Spanish football federation for one year pending his case in court and Juan Luis Larrea has been named the interim Spanish football federation’s president.
