ANTONIO CONTE: ‘WE WANT TO AVOID THE MOURINHO SEASON’

Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte has indicated that he and his lads will ‘want to avoid the Mourinho season’ as they seek to defend the Premier League title.
Antonio Conte who steered Chelsea to the PL title in his first season at Stamford Bridge has indicated that they will not want to be in the ‘Mourinho season’ where Jose Mourinho after winning the PL title in 2015 was sacked just 7 months with the club lying 16th. Chelsea went on to finish the season at 10th.
“Two years ago Chelsea finished 10th; that cannot happen again,” Conte said.

He also indicated how ‘difficult’ it is winning back-to-back PL titles as the last team to do so was Manchester United in 2009.

“We know the difficulty and for sure we want to avoid the Mourinho season with Chelsea,” Conte added.

“The coaches of the previous two champions [Chelsea and Leicester] both lost their jobs [the next season] and we are working very well to find the best solutions and use them,” Conte lamented.

“We have a lot of young players and it is necessary to try and develop them.”

Conte made these known after Chelsea’s last preseason game which saw the Blues lost 2-1 to Inter Milan and featured a spectacular own goal from Inter’s Geoffrey Kondogbia.
