A new date is being worked on for the bout between Carl Frampton and Andres Gutierrez after the initial date which was Saturday was cancelled.
Irish Frampton who was supposed to fight with Mexican Gutierrez for the WBO featherweight belt was left disgusted after the bout was cancelled due to Gutierrez suffering injuries to his face and head.
The Mexican fell on Friday in the shower and suffered multiple injuries leading to facial cuts, two broken teeth and bruising to the head.
Frampton’s manager Barry McGuigan said on Friday: “We’re all so disappointed. It was a freak accident.
“He slipped in the shower, smashed his face, the guy is concussed. He has a deep gash on his chin, his nose, lost two of his teeth.”
Frampton, 30, was to use the Saturday bout as his homecoming fight after losing to Mexican Leo Santa Cruz in Las Vegas in January.
It is not clear when the fight will be rescheduled as they need to ensure Gutierrez is fully recovered from the injuries suffered but the bout organisers Cyclone Promotions and the SSE Arena have revealed that they are working on the clock to get a new date for the bout.
Cyclone Promotions and the SSE Arena said on Saturday;
“Since the accident on Friday night and subsequent event cancellation, Cyclone Promotions, the SSE Arena, the Gutierrez management team, boxing authorities and relevant broadcasters have been working to agree a new date for the fight”.
“We appreciate the patience of all ticket holders who can retain their tickets pending confirmation of a rescheduled fight. For anyone wishing to arrange a refund, further details will be released early next week”.
“We wish to apologise once again for this very unfortunate cancellation and wish Andres a speedy recovery from the serious injuries he sustained last night”.
