Manchester United has completed the signing of Chelsea’s defensive midfielder, Nemanja Matic on a permanent deal, the club has announced.
Matic, 28, who joined Chelsea from Benefica in 2014 for a deal initially worth £40m plus add-ons which will see the transfer reach £50m.
The two clubs have confirmed the deal with Chelsea reporting on their website that the Serbian has head north of England.
Nemanja Matic then become Manchester United’s third summer recruit following the arrivals of Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku. This brings the total amount spent by Manchester United on transfers to £146m.
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said Matic has “everything we want in a footballer; loyalty, consistency, ambition”.
Matic said after joining Manchester City; “I am delighted to be joining at an exciting time”.
“To work with Jose Mourinho once again was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down”, he added.
“I have enjoyed my time at Chelsea and would like to thank the club and the fans for their support. I cannot wait to meet my new team-mates and to start training with them”, the Serb indicated.
