Former Manchester United and Sunderland midfielder Darron Gibson will face an internal disciplinary process, the club statement has said after he was seen on video appearing to criticise teammates after Sunderland lost 5-0 in a friendly to Celtic.
In the video, Gibson was seen describing the team as “s***” and also claiming certain teammates aside him “did not care” about playing for Sunderland.
The club statement reads;
“Darron Gibson has not conducted himself in a manner befitting Sunderland AFC”.
“We will initiate our internal disciplinary process”.
The statement added: “Darron has apologised this (Monday) morning”.
Gibson, 29, joined Sunderland from Everton in January, 2017 and made 12 appearances for the club till they were relegated from the Premier League last season.
Sunderland will begin their quest for promotion to the top flight against Derby County at the Stadium of Light on Friday.
