CITI OPEN: EDMUND ADVANCES; JAMIE AND BRUNO IN QUARTERS

Brit Kyle Edmund has reached the second round of the Citi Open in Washington after beating Hyeon Chung of South Korea in straight sets.

Edmund, 22, beat Hyeon Chung 6-3 6-1 in 57 minutes to reach the next round.

Edmund who reached the Atlanta Open last four last week will face Grigor Dimitrov in the second round.

Elsewhere, Jamie Murray from Britain and Bruno Soares from Brazil paired to beat France’s Edouard Roger-Vasselin and American Steve Johnson in the Men’s doubles.

The pair of Murray and Soares won in straight sets beating the pair of Edouard and Steve 7-6 (8-6) 6-1 to reach the quarter finals of the Citi Open in Washington.

British Heather Watson in the female singles also lost to Patricia Maria Tig in straight sets.

Tig, ranked 134 in the world beat the the top seed 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-3) to reach the second round and will battle it out with Monica Niculescu or Nao Hibino who play later today.
