HIGUAIN DROPPED AS SAMPOLI NAMES ARGENTINA SQUAD FOR URUGUAY AND VENEZUELA

Sampaoli leaves out Higuain and calls the athletic Augusto

Argentina Coach Jorge Sampoli has confirmed earlier rumours of Gonzalo Higuian loosing his position in the National team by dropping the Juventus forward for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Argentina are due to play Uruaguay and Venezuela in order to try and secure a place for the 2018 FIFA World Cup to be hosted by Russia.

The Juventus number 9, has lost favour from his country men after failing to impress in his recent appearances for the Albicelestes.

Instaed, Inter’s Mauro Icardi gets the chance to prove himself with Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero slipping through but also needing to provide some confidence with his call up.

Barcelona’s Javier Mascherano who was rumoured to be dropped together with Higuian, appears in the squad but this time he is to start in defense for the first time for the land of Silver. He got injured when playing for Barcelona and so could not make it to the last two matches against Brazil and Singapore.

Atletico Madrid’s Augusto Fernandez makes a return after sitting out of action for almost a year because of a serious knee injury he suffered last season.

Also, it has been confirmed today that the injuries of Joaquin CORREA and Gabriel MERCADO are not serious and they will recover in time to take part in these upcoming qualifiers.

Argentina lie 5th with 22 points behind, Brazil, Columbia, Uruguay and Chile respectively.

Goalkeepers: Sergio Romero, Nahuel Guzmán, Gerónimo Rulli.

Defenders: Javier Mascherano, Federico Fazio, Nicolás Otamendi, Gabriel Mercado, Nicolás Pareja.

 

Midfielders: Ever Banega, Lucas Biglia, Augusto Fernández, Leandro Paredes, Guido Pizarro, Ángel Di María, Marcos Acuña, Javier Pastore, Eduardo Salvio, Manuel Lanzini.

 

Forwards: Lionel Messi, Paulo Dybala, Sergio Agüero, Joaquín Correa, Mauro Icardi.
