Elina beat Caroline 6-4 6-0 in Toronto to become the first woman to win three events at the elite Premier 5 level in the same year.

The loss to Elina means Caroline Wozniacki has lost all six finals in 2017 and said after the game; “It was a tough day”.

“She played well. She mixed up the pace and made it uncomfortable for me out there”.

“Today, probably I could have used some more pace, but she played really smart today and used my pace to her advantage”, she added.

Elina, 22, who could reclaim top spot from current World number one Karolina Pliskova if she is able to go all her way at the Cincinnati Open starting next week has become the first woman to be a three-time winner of Premier 5 titles in the same season.

She was delighted with the win and said after she won the Rogers Cup;

“It’s amazing that I achieved this, but I try to take one tournament at a time, to not think so much about all the past titles”.

“Of course it brings me confidence, I have the experience from those finals, but I try to take it as a new challenge and always look forward to it”, the 22 year old Ukrainian added.

“I was very, very tired after the first game of first set, and I knew that I need to give everything because Caroline doesn’t miss much”, she continued.

“You have to work really hard to get unforced error from her”, the 2017 Rogers Cup winner indicated.

Elina Svitolina saw off Wimbledon Champion Garbine Muguruza in the quarters on Saturday and later on the same day needed to play Simona Halep which she eased past before setting up a clash with Caroline Wozniacki in Sunday’s final.

Wozniacki on the other hand saw of world number one Karolina Pliskova in the quarter finals before adding American Sloane Stephens in the semis to set up a final with Elina Svitolina of Ukraine.
