ERNESTO VALVERDE : NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE, WE ARE NOT BEATEN YET

Ernesto Valverde, coach of FC Barcelona has expressed his optimism of over turning the 1-3 defeat suffered at the hands of Real Madrid on Sunday.

Real Madrid beat the Catalan giants in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup at the Camp Nou but the new coach is very confident his side can stage a come back.

He spoke to the press this evening explaining how they have taken notice of their mistakes and ready to correct them on Wednesday night in order to win the second tie at the Santiago Bernabeau.

“We don’t think we are beaten yet”, the FC Barcelona coach said.

“We maintain our idea of going there and winning the game and taking the title, we are not beaten. In spite of the fact that it will be tough, we have a chance and we will go for it,” added Valverde.

With the danger their opponents pose on the break, the coach warned of the challenge his team face. “We have to go forward but also control their counter attacks, they are specialists in that,” he said.

Valverde also cast his mind back to the first leg: “During the game we did well but in the end, with that push to attack, we left ourselves open a little and that’s where the game was decided.”

He did not admit that their opponents are better than them, ” no one is better than us, not at all, the Barcelona coach emphasized.

On Paulinho

He then went on to acknowledge the signing of Brazilian midfielder Paulinho, ” he is a good signing for us, he is a regular for the Brazilian National team, he is technically good and has power, I think he will help us. Paulinho has something we miss in our team”.

Sergi Roberto and Sergi Samper

“I have spoken to Sergi Roberto and have assured him the I count on him, he is an important player for us and has always been important for the team”.

he is versatile and his importance will depend on each game we play in the season”. Valverde explained.

Roberto and Samper are two home grown players who have matured well and also well educated from the point of view of training. “I spoke to Samper three or four days ago and I explained to him that he needs to leave to gain more playing time elsewhere, I have given him some specific things to follow and if he does, it will help him become a better player”.
