Brit Johanna Konta and Spaniard Garbine Muguruza are through to the next round of the Cincinnati Masters after beating Dutch Kiki Bertens and Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia respectively.
Konta who received a bye in the first round is through to the third round at the Cincinnati Open with a 6-3 6-3 win over Bertens and will face either Alize Cornet of France or Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova in the next round.
Wimbledon champion, Muguruza also won in straight sets of 6-2 6-0 over Haddad Maia and will take on Russian Daria Kastatkina or American Madison Keys in the third round.
Elsewhere, Romanian Simona Halep won in straight sets as she beat Taylor Townsend from America 6-4 6-1.
Halep with the straight sets win means he will face the winner of Anastasija Sevastova and Roberta Vinci in the third round.
Wimbledon finalist and eight time Grand Slam winner, Venus Williams saw off her fellow compatriot Alison Riske 6-2 6-0 to reach the second round.
Serb Aleksandra Krunic also reached the next stage with a 6-4 6-4 victory over French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko while German Julia Goerges also advanced to the next round with a 6-4 6-4 win over Agnieszka Radwanska.
