George Haldane Lutterodt, a former Chairman of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) has labelled Ghana performance at the 2017 World Athletics Championship which was held in London as ‘disastrous’.
According to the former chairman of GAA, he will put the blame on the doors of the Association as none of the eight athletes presented could bypass the preliminary stages.
He told Class Sports; “Obviously it was a disaster; the performance was nothing to write home about as none of them was able to qualify to the next round”.
“There is nothing to [use to] describe it but as an absolute disaster. I’m not blaming the athletes; I’m blaming the GAA because they are supposed to handle these athletes”, he continued.
“People are talking about personal best but we sent our athletes to go win medals and nothing more”, he lamented.
The Sports Ministry presented to the athletes $84,600 before they flew to London and Gerge Lutterodt who calls for a probe into how the money was used adding that it ‘was a complete waste of resources’.
He said; “This is complete waste of money”.
“We need to know what that money was used for because the tickets are being paid by the IAAF for all athletes including the chair and the secretary General”, he added.
“Accommodation there is free because you are in the game village so they should explain what that $84,600 was used for”, he concluded.
