FC Barcelona have unveiled their third signing for the summer today as Brazilian midfielder Paulinho expressed his delight to join the Catalan giants.
The Brazilian midfielder follows after Gerard Deolofeu and Nelson Semedo were brought in to argument the squad of FC Barcelona.
The former Tottenham player was presented to his new family of about 2000 fans who were present at the Camp Nou to witness Paulinho’s first day at work.
He was signed from Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande for a fee of 40 million Euros and is expected to help uplift the image of the club for the next 5 years.
He underwent his medicals at the Barcelona Hospital under the supervision of club doctors before meeting with the Club President Josep Maria Bartomew to pen down his contract with the club.
He was taken through the treadmill, checked his weight and height, as well as his heart beat during the medicals.
Paulinho was then paraded through the offices of the Camp Nou before been presented to the 2000 home fans who came to welcome him.
He is also expected to bring some stability to the midfield of FC Barcelona as they keep struggling after the departure of club legend Xavi.
In his official statement, he said ” You have to face challenges with courage, I am prepared to work and I will do my best”.
“Coming here is a dream and I will give my all, it is a very satisfactory moment for me”.
“I don’t care about the price paid, the most important thing is that I am here and I am ready, I am ready to play in any position given to me by the coach. He emphasized.
He explained thus, ” I am here to help my team mates win titles. I decided Barcelona because it is the place I dreamed, and those who know me know what I went through to get to Barcelona,” he concluded.
The hard tackling midfielder will wear the number 15 jersey which was previously won by Marc Batra currently with Borussia Dortmund.
His signing has brought a lot of mixed reactions in the Barcelona family as the president, Maria Bartomew is accused of having a hand in his supposed outrageous 40 million deal, something which the top hierarchy of the club has vehemently denied.
Paulinho played 63 games for his former club in China, winning the AFC Champions League and the Chinese FA Cup.
Guangzhou bought Paulinho from Englisg club Tottenham Hotspurs for £10m in 2015 after he failed to live up to the expected performance that saw him been priced out of Corinthians for £17m .
He comes in after his Brazilian compatriot Neymar Santos Jnr had left the club under controversial circumstances.
