National Sports Authority boss, Hon. Robert Sarfo Mensah ‘Booba’ has indicated that the cost for organizing the FOX Sports WAFU tournament next month in Ghana will be borne by FOX Sports.
Ghana has been handed the hosting right to host 15 other West African countries in the 2017 FOX Sports WAFU Cup of Nations and will take place at the Sekondi Takoradi Stadium at Essipong and the Cape Coast stadium starting September 9.
Ahead of the tournament, the NSA boss has indicated that FOX Sports will take responsibility of ensuring the two stadiums are in good shape for the event.
He added that this was agreed between the NSA, the GFA and the official sponsors of the tournament, FOX Sports.
He told reporters; “Before such tournaments are sanctioned by the government, government will want to know the responsibility of the state in the proposed deal”.
“The FA made it categorically clear to the Sports Ministry that hosting the tournament was at no cost to the state even though there are other explicit costs relating to security and others”, he continued.
He further added; “They are coming to use our facilities and we couldn’t have allowed WAFU to use our facilities and leave the burden of maintenance to us”.
“So we reached an agreement between all parties and they have decided to fix all the challenges associated with the stadium before the tournament”, he was quick to add.
“They have also agreed to give us 40% of all gate proceeds. So it is a negotiation for a win-win situation for all of us”, he lamented.
