Spanish and Wimbledon Champion Garbine Muguruza has set up a final with Romanian Simona Halep in the Cincinnati Masters Women’s final.
Muguruza saw off current world number one Karolina Pliskova 6-3 6-2 in the semi finals on Saturday.
The straight set win over Pliskova means she will play Simona Halep who also eased past American Sloane Stephens in straight set win of 6-2 6-1.
Halep who will claim top spot from Pliskova if she wins the tournament said after the game; “I think it’s something special to get number one in the world”.
“Everyone can get to number one now”, she added.
“The ranking is close. I really want that”, she was quick to indicate.
The Women’s final will take place on Sunday.
In other events, the Cincinnati Open Men’s doubles final will see British Jamie Murray and Brazilian partner Bruno Soares take on French pair of Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut.
Both pairs won their semi final ties in straight sets with Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares beating Polish Lukasz Kubot and Brazilian Marcelo Melo 6-4 7-5 to advance to the final.
