The Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano was thrown into a frenzy mode when Nigeria dealt with Benin with a two goal scoreline to qualify for the African Nations Championship in Kenya on Saturday.
Coming from a goal down in the first leg, the Nigerians knew they needed an early goal to calm their nerves.
Their luck came after 22 minutes when Rabiu Ali got the goal to make it 1-1 on aggregate.
The local side of Benin then needed to score to unsettle their Nigerian counterparts but the pressure from the home side was too great for them to bear alas they resorted to some defensive tactics to sustain the pressure till the referee called off the first half.
Upon their return from the tunnel, the Nigerians doubled their lead when Kingsley Eduwo’s header put the hosts further ahead after a great cross from Osas Okoro.
Nigeria’s goal keeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa ensured that his side went through when he save a penalty shoot from Benin’s Mama Seibou.
Nigeria then grew in confidence to contain the Squirrels in the midfield the time kept whirling away till the referee blew for the end of the game.
The Green Eagles then qualified on a 2-1 aggregate.
