KOFI POKU- THE PRIME OBJECTIVE OF MTN FA CUP FINAL IN TAMALE IS TO SELL GOOD BRAND OF FOOTBALL

Mr. Kofi Poku, Vice Chairman of MTN FA Cup Committee has stated that their prime objective for the organization of the annual football knockout is to sell a good brand of Ghanaian football.

Mr. Poku spoke on Boss FM this afternoon after the Semi- Finals draw where Wa All Stars were paired against Hearts of Oak and Kotoko also meet Medeama.

He confirmed that the two semifinals would be played at Obuasi Len Clay Stadium and the final taking place in Tamale.

Asked why the organizers opted for Tamale and not Kumasi, Accra or Cape Coast as usually done, he explained thus ” We have the objective of selling the beautiful brand of the Ghanaian football to the outside world, we even have the aim of playing such finals in Togo and other African countries so that our clubs and sponsors can get the needed mileage”.

“Imagine Kotoko and Hearts playing such a big final in one of our neigbouring countries, you can see people would love to know and see more about these famous clubs in Africa and the kind of football they can offer.” he continued.

He went on to debunk the rumours that the organizers are looking out for a possible Kotoko vs Hearts of Oak final so as to get money from great spectator-ship.

He said that “last year Bechem United and Okwahu United played in the finals at Cape Coast, yet we got people filling the stadium to watch the game, so it is not true we are looking out for Kotoko vs Hearts finals as been speculated”.

Mr. Kofi Poku also explained that the choice of venue and time is in consultation with their sponsors STAR-TIME. “They have given their concern for the choice of Obuasi and Tamale and we shall be making very good use of the market there to sell the game”, he affirmed.

The MTN FA Cup Committee Vice Chairman then went on to say that the draw became necessary after the quarter-finals, though they had grouped the participating teams into two zones.

He then confirmed that winner of the 2017 MTN FA Cup, will take home 50,000 Ghana Cedis with the runner up also bagging 150, 000 Gh Cedis. And then the winner would also get some support to enable them compete in the CAF Confederations Cup 2018.

The best player of tournament will also be given the chance to hold trials with a Hungarian Club.

Meanwhile, participating teams in the Semi Finals will be given 7000 cedis each.
