Nii Lante Vanderpuije, former Youth and Sports Minister has indicated that he was not ‘surprised’ at Ghana’s failure to make it to the fifth edition of the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament but ‘worried’.
The outspoken former Minister who has been on the neck on the GFA since assuming that role was reacting to Ghana’s exit at the qualifying rounds of the 2018 CHAN tournament.
Ghana lost 2-1 to Burkina Faso in Kumasi on Sunday to exit on a 4-3 aggregate scoreline to make it two successive times they have failed to make the tournament after twice being runners-up in 2009 and 2011.
Nii Lante Vanderpuije said; “Let me start by saying it is not a surprise to me but worried”.
“I’m sad that we have failed to qualify. I was expecting us to qualify after drawing 2-2 away but least did I expect that we will lose the return match”, he added.
He indicated that the management of football by the GFA is likened to a cow-dung adding; “But I’m not surprised because these are the things I’ve been talking about all these while that if we continue to develop the cow-dung management style over the management of our football, we will always reap these results”.
He further added; “It is not well with our football. It is only hypocrites who are continually saying all is well and when you talk about it, they send their cohorts around radio stations to haunt you and to insult you”.
“But the truth will always triumph over falsehood and light will always shine over darkness. We did some wrong things in the past which has resulted in this. Let sit down, correct things and build a better future tomorrow”, he concluded.
