The Chief Executive Officer of Tema Youth FC, Winfred Osei Palmer has called on the Ghana Football Association to black list the bad pitches that is killing the quality of play in the Ghana Premier League.
Most football lovers and stakeholders have complained about the level of retrogression of Ghana’s local football, siting the frequent export of players outside Ghana as the main reason.
Others too have attributed it to the influx of the foreign leagues like English Premiership, Spanish La Liga and others as also a big contributing factor to the decline of spectatorship of the Ghana Premier league.
But Mr Winfred Osei Palmer, owner of Tema Youth FC has added his voice to the school of thought that the pitches are in bad taste and thus affecting the quality of the Ghanaian game.
Mr. Palmer was speaking to the media after the Ghana Mali game in which he made a comparison analysis of the WAFU tournament and the Ghanaian league.
“For me, I do not think the quality of play has gone down in the local league as some people term it, but it is due to the bad pitches that is affecting our game”. Palmar emphasized.
He continued to explain thus, ” we must black list those bad pitches and use the good ones for the league matches”.
We can have two teams using the same pitch (good ones), we just have to change the kick off times, one team can play earlier and the second team under flood lights. If fans buy tickets, it should cover the two matches for the day and that can really help us”. The Tema Youth owner concluded.
The deputy chairman of the Black Stars management Committee also asked country’s authorities to improve the status of our pitches to build on the quality of the Ghanaian game.
