Dr. Kwame Kyei, the Executive Board Chairman of Kumasi Asante has offically cut sod for work to commence at Adako Jachie for the construction of a mini Stadium for the club.
The Kotoko Chief was accompanied by his management members as well as leaders of the supporting groups; Circles and Faithfuls during the sod cutting on Wednesday morning.
Dr. Kwame Kyei has already outlined his plans of building an ultra modern 22,000 capacity stadium to house the team for training and other mini matches. This he also believes would uplift the image of the club and its sponsors.
However, in an interview with the media Executive Board Chairman revealed that the club has enormous plans for the facility hence the need to speed up the completion of the stadium.
“We have huge plans for this facility & we want to start by getting the entire space properly demarcated,” said Dr. Kyei.
Adako Jachie project which was started by former Executive Chairman Dr Kofi Kondua Sarpong is suppose to have two-storey building to serve as changing rooms but has been stalled for sometime.
Dr Kyei is the CEO of a number of business including Unity Oil Company Limited, Light FM, Light TV, Vision 1 FM, Sports Hotel and the Sport Recreational Center and many other subsidiaries. Unity Oil the biggest of his businesses, which started at Taifa in Accra has several branches nationwide. Some of these are found at Ofankor (the head office), Ahwiankwanta, Agona Jamasi, Sunyani, Bantama, Asokwa, Afrancho, Asenua, Boankra, Santasi and Atonsu. Others are located at Tanoso, Ahodwo and Takoradi. The business mogul employs over 4000 people.
Apart from Obuasi Ash Gold, there is no other club with such a facility and Kotoko’s own will be good for Ghana football and the club though it is questionable relative to the team’s supporting base.
