PERU HOLD ARGENTINA AT LA BOMBONERA AS PARAGUAY SURPRISE COLUMBIA IN CONMEBOL

Argentina once again failed to win at home when they were held to a draw by Peru.

The Argentines showed serious of the quest right from the start but their inability to convert the numerous chances created especially by Messi made it impossible to get the all important  three points at stake.

Angel Di Maria had a great chance to shake the Bombonera Stadium at the 23rd minute but shot over the bar.

It was clear that Peru wanted to defend from deep and hurt Argentina with long balls but the Argentine defense was up to the task with Mascherano and Otamendi marking their areas very well to prevent Farfan and Guerrero from scoring for Peru.

As usual Lionel Messi was all over the pitch running up and down to feed Benedictto the ball but the Boca Juniors striker wasted all the decent opportunities created by Messi.

The second half saw the firing from all angles but luck was not on their side as Lionel Messi’s powerful shoot hit the post to the amazement of the Argentine fans in the stadium.

able captain started looking out for a possible solution to get a goal but all failed as the goal keeper for Peru was not ready to allow the Argentines smile.

But Messi and his team were given a life line to qualify as Paraguay came from a 1-0 down to beat Columbia 2-1.

Monaco striker Radamel Falco scored a screamer for Columbia in the 79th minute but they could not hold their guard and allowed the Paraguayans to surprise them with two late goals from Oscar Cardozo and Antonio Sanabria in the 89th  and 90th minute.

Chile revived their hope with a 2-1 win over Ecuador. Eduardo Vargas scored the first goal and then Romario Ibarra equalized on the 84th minute but Alexis Sanchez quickly put them back on track after minutes to make it 2-1 for Chile.

Venezuela postponed Uruguay’s passage to Russia when they held Luis Suarez to a goalless draw in Caracas.

Already qualified Brazil and already out Bolivia also battled for a a goalless draw in the Bolivian capital.

Now Brazil still lead with 38 points

Uruguay – 28 points

Chile – 26 points

Columbia – 26 points

Peru – 25 points

Argentina – 25 points

Paraguay – 24 points

Ecuador – 20 points

Bolivia – 14 points

Venezuela – 9 points

The teams will meet themselves once again on Tuesday night and the fixtures will be as follows:

Brazil vs Chile

Ecuador vs Argentina 

Peru vs Columbia

Uruguay vs Bolivia

Paraguay vs Venezuela
