WORLD CUP 2018- CHILE CRASHES OUT AS PERU MAKES PLAY-OFF

The current champions of South AmErica, Chile failed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2018 when they lost to Brazil in Sao Paulo.

After winning the last two editions of the Copa America in 2015 and 2016 respectively, La Roja of Chile were expected to exhibit their good works in Russia but the difficult nature of the World Cup qualifiers in CONMEBOL made things worst for Sanchez and his colleagues.

Peru and Columbia managed to scale through with the former waiting to secure the qualification through the play offs against New Zealand. the Colombians scored first through after 56 minutes of play through James Rodriquez but allowed Jose Gurrero to equalize for Peru on the 76th minute.

The scoreline remained 1-1 when the referee blew his whistle after the 90+ minutes with Columbia placing 4th on 27 points and Peru 5th with 26 points.

Uruguay also came from behind to beat Bolivia 4-2 in Montevideo, goals from martin Caseres, Edson Cavani and Luis Suarez gave Uruguay the chance to go to Russia. Bolivia got two goals through own goals by Caston Silva and Diego Godin. Suarez scored a brace to give Uruguay the safety of qualification.

Elsewhere, Uruguay’s neigbours Paraguay lost to Venezuela at home with a 1-0 scoreline.

Argentina also qualified when they beat Ecuador in Quito with three goals from Lionel Messi.
