Former Black Stars striker Prince Opoku Polley has asked Ghanaians to exercise patience with Asamoah Gyan, Captain of the Senior National team, Black Stars.
There have been several calls from Ghanaian football fans that Gyan should rather call it quit with the Black Stars as he has over lived his prime as the leading striker for the team.
Polley was speaking on Metro FM in Kumasi on Thursday morning prior to the World Cup qualifier between Ghana and Egypt, “I think Ghanaians should be patient for Asamoah Gyan to play AFCON 2019 before they call for his retirement”.
Gyan has been on and off with the national team due to recurring injuries and the former Kotoko hero pleaded with the football populace to allow nature to take its course as the Stars skipper serves as a model for the young strikers in the team.
“I don’t think Asamoah Gyan should retire from the National team now due to injuries because some of the young players in the team are learning from him”, Polley lamented.
“Asamoah Gyan is a Weapon in the team who helps the team in terms of hardships and then when we mix him with the young players it will help us to win the Afcon 2019”
“We have Potential young players in the team so if we keep them together with the Old players we can win a trophy for the Country”
Asamoah is currently the nation’s top goal scorer with 51 goals in over hundred games.
On Kotoko Players
Prince Polley also called on the trusted supporters of his former club Kumasi Asante Kotoko to have confidence in Saddick Adams and other new players in the team.
“Kotoko does not need another *Striker* but what the Coach have to do is to polish the Strikers available; Adams,Yakubu Mohammed and others, so i don’t see the need to bring a new Striker into the team”
“Baba Mahama is a very good player but the Coach must work on him to deliver for Kotoko and also the Coach must work more on Yakubu Mohammed* so that he can also deliver well for the team”, he said.
