LIONEL MESSI EQUALS CRISTIANO RONALDO’S RECORD OF FOUR GOLDEN BOOTS

 

Lionel Andres Messi, the talisman for FC Barcelona has received his record fourth golden boot award which ensures he equals that of Cristiano Ronaldo who plays for rival club Real Madrid

Leo Messi collected his fourth Golden Boot at the Antigua Damà de Barcelona thanks to the 37 goals he score for the Blaugrana el Vent.

Messi attended the meeting accompanied by his teammates Andrés Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suárez , the last winner and who has given him the award. Barcelona President Josep Maria Bar Tomeu, club CEO Òscar Grau , vice presidents Jordi Cardoner and Jordi Mestre, sports manager Pep Segura and Guillermo Amor, director of Institutional Relations of the club.

Messi was also boosted by the presence of His wife, Antonela Roccuzzo , her first-born Thiago . His father Jorge and his older brother Rodrigo also attended the event.

At the event, it was Luis Suárez, the Uruguayan striker  and winner of the trophy in the seasons 2013/2014 (Liverpool) and 2015/2016, who gave the award to his inseparable friend and team-mate at FC Barcelona.

Ceremony of delivery of the Golden Boot 2013-2014 to Luis Suárez, as top scorer of the European leagues, in a ceremony held in the old Damm factory.

This is the fourth conquest of this trophy, established in 1968, of the famous number ’10’ culé that places it at the top of the historical ranking, equaling Cristiano Ronaldo, also with four Golden Boots. Messi signed his first award in 2010 with 34 goals, in 2012 with 50 (absolute record), in 2013 with 46 and in 2017, with 37 goals.

Here we detail some of the other records that the living legend.

1) Player who has scored the most goals in a calendar year : 91 goals in 2012 (79 with Barça and 12 with Argentina).

2) Player with the most goals scored in the same season : 82 in the 2011-12 season.

3) The only player to have achieved in the same season the Golden Ball, the FIFA World Player, the Pichichi and the Golden Boot (2011-12).

4) Maximum winner of Gold Balls : 5 (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015).

5) Maximum winner of the Golden Boot: 4 (2010, 2011, 2013 and 2017), equaling Cristiano Ronaldo .

6) Record of goals with Barça : 523 goals in 602 games.

7) Record of goals with Argentina : 61

8) Record of titles with Barça : 30, tied with Andrés Iniesta.
