OPOKU WARE SCHOOL AND PREMPEH COLLEGE ELIMINATED FROM THE INTER SCHOOLS SOCCER COMPETITION

There was drama at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi when Opoku Ware School lost to Juabeng SHS and their rivals Prempeh College also lost to Sakafia SHS.

The 1/16th stage of the Ashanti Regional Inter Schools and Colleges Soccer Competition reached a crescendo when the two great schools were eliminated. Students, teachers and old boys of Prempeh College jubilated when Opoku Ware School lost to Juabeng but their happiness was cut short when they also lost to Sakafia SHS on penalties afterwards.

Kumasi High School has also been kicked out of the ongoing competition after a 5:4 defeat on penalties following a goalless drawn game against T. I. Amass-Fomena.

The defending Champions, Kumasi Anglican also won two nil against St. Hubert Seminary in the second game on the day.

The goal keeper for Islamic SHS, Adams Abdul Jamah, won the hearts of all football fans present at the Stadium when he saved all five penalties from the players of Osei Tutu SHS. His compatriot at Osei Tutu SHS, Abel Asare also saved  three out of four penalties but that was not enough for the Akropong based school.

Results from all six matches played are as follows :

  1. Kumasi High School 0: 0 Fomena Amass

Amass won 5-4 on penalties

 

2. Kumasi Anglican 2:0 St. Hubert

3. Juabeng 0:0 Opoku Ware School

(Juaben wins 4:2 on penalties)

4. Adu Gyamfi SHS 2:0 Asanteman SHS

5. Prempeh College 1:1 Sakafia SHS

Sakafia won 5-4 on penalties

6. Osei Tutu SHS 1 vs 1 Islamic SHS 

 Islamic won (0) – (1) – penalty shoot out
