Real Madrid right back,Dani Carvajal is due to sit out of the first leg of the knock out phase as he has been given a two match suspension by The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Committee
Cavajal recieves another match sanction in addition to the original one he suffered against Borussia Dortmund in the last round of matches of the 2017/ 18 UEFA Champions League. He is accused of having forced the yellow card in the Cypriot side of Apoel in the last match played in Champions by the white club.
The Committee sat on the case to review the turn of events in the said game and confirmed the sanction after watching the video and photographs.
UEFA opened a file and the Disciplinary Committee studied the case in accordance with article 15 of the disciplinary code, by “voluntarily” seeking the reprimand. According to this article, the player who “clearly provokes a yellow or red card” will be punished with up to two suspension games.
Recap of events
In the 90th minute, Dani Carvajal made several feints with his arms without actually letting go of the ball during a throw-in. The match referee showed him the yellow card after the action was not executed at the correct time. The lateral made several unnecessary threats to force the reprimand. In this way, the Real Madrid side saw the second yellow card of the season in the Champions League.
This is not the first time a Madrid player has had to undergo such a sanction, it would be recalled that Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos also did same against Ajax in a game played at the ArenA in Amsterdam as it was suspected to be masterminded by the then coach José Mourinho. José also suffered sanction and Iker Casillas as well as Jerzy Dudek as necessary assistants.
UEFA sanctioned Jose (Appeal left him in one) with two matches and the reprimanded Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos with a match and economic fines, as well as the rest of the accused.
