RAFA NADAL AND GARBINE MUGURUNZA WIN BEST TENNIS PLAYERS FOR 2017

Spaniards Rafa Nadal and Garbiñe Mugurunza have been adjudged the best male and female tennis players for the year 2017 by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

It is the first time in about tens years since two players from the country won such awards simultaneously. It was as far back as 1998 that America’s Pete Sampras and female compatriot Lindsay Davenport won the awards at the same time representing the same federation.

Meanwhile Nadal is claiming his third award in this category whereas Mugurunza is claiming her maiden one.

The best award for men’s doubles competition went to the Polish Lukasz Kubot and the Brazilian Marcelo Melo; in women’s doubles good old Martina Hingis from Switzerland and Taiwanese Yun-Jan Chan .

The Argentine Axel Geller and the American Whitney Osuigwe, have been nominated as the best junior players . The American David Wagner, the Argentine Gustavo Fernandez and the Japanese Yui Kamiji have been the best in the wheelchair category. Eight of the eleven players will receive the award for the first time, with three winners from South America for the first time in the same season.

The winners will receive their respective awards on June 8 2018 in Paris during the Roland Garros.
