Kumasi Girls Senior high school managed to break the monopoly of T.I. Amass after winning the girls division of the 2018 super zonals of the Ashanti Regional inter schools and colleges athletics competition.
The win by Kumasi Girls threw the whole stadium into excitement as people cheered to the narrow defeat of T. I. Amass in the girls category after dominating the competition for 9 years. They won by 162 points as Amass placed second with 152 points.
St. Louis Girls who seem to be on the ascendancy came third after TI Amass with 91 points beating fourth placed Kumasi Wesley Girls by 14 clear points.
However in the boy’s division, Prempeh College and Opoku Ware School once again failed to reclaim the top spot from TI Amass as the Phobians managed to win the competition for a record tenth consecutive time in the boys category.
Amass Boys got 135 points beating second placed Prempeh College by almost 56 points. Opoku Ware School managed to get ahead of Obuasi Sec Tech by just a half point as Owass got 57 with O’Sec Tech clinching 56 and half.
The highly patronized competition was closed by the Regional Director of Education Mrs Mary Owusu Achiaw who commended the effort of the athletes for their competitive spirit.
The dominance of Amass in the boys category was overwhelming as Prempeh College, Opoku Ware, Islamic, Obuasi, KOSS, OKESS and Aduman failed to lose any realistic threat to their title ambition but Kumasi Girls proved too superior for them in the girls division.
Prempeh came second with Opoku Ware coming fourth as they allowed Jachie Pramso to overtake them once again. The Owarens beat Jachie Pramso in the Zonal Competition prior to the Super Zonals.
