WYDAD CASABLANCA SET TO DEFEND TROPHY AS KNOCKOUT PHASE RETURNS IN THE 2018 CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

The 2018 CAF Champions League’s First Round will continue this weekend with 15 first-leg matches across the continent on Saturday and Sunday.

The defending African champions Wydad Casablanca of Morocco are set to take on Ivorian side Williamsville Athletic Club at the Stade Robert Champroux in Abidjan on Saturday. Wydad are leading 7-2 on aggregate.

Record eight-time African champions Al Ahly of Egypt will travel to the Stade d’Angondjé in Libreville where they are scheduled to face Gabonese giants CF Mounana, who lost 4-0 in the first-leg clash.

Zanaco coach Mumamba Numba is confident his charges can they will avenge their home loss when they visit Mbabane Swallows on Saturday and safely secure their passage to the lucrative mini-league stage.

The Zambian side travel to the Somhlolo Stadium seeking to overturn a 2-1 deficit against the Swazi champions in the reverse.

The defeat was even more painful after Swallows rallied from a goal down to win in a match that Felix Nyaende squandered a stoppage time penalty that will have earn Zanaco a deserving 2-2 draw.

“Everyone is looking good. We have worked on the mistakes we made in the first leg and hope to get the result that we need to reach the group stage,” Numba said.

Bruised Zanaco target Swallows fall

On Sunday, the 2016 African champions Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa will host Rwandan champions Rayon Sports at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium. The first-leg match ended in a 0-0 draw.

Tunisian giants Esperance de Tunis will host Kenyan champions Gor Mahia at the Stade Olympique de Radès in Radès on Sunday. The two teams drew 0-0 in the first-leg clash.

The winners on aggregate winners will advance into the group stage.
