Aduana Stars coach Yusif Abubakar has called on his team to continue their good form after thrashing Fosa Juniors of Madagascar 6-1 in the CAF Confederation Cup playoff, first-leg match against .
Aduana clicked into top gear this past weekend as they handed Inter Allies a 6-0 thrashing in the Ghana Premier League before facing Fosa Juniors.
It was the visitors who broke the deadlock after four minutes through Alan Randrianantenaina to silence the home crowd.
The goal gingered the hosts who then accepted the challenge and mounted pressure on Fosa Juniors in search of the equalizer. The lead only lasted four minutes as Elvis Opoku scored from 25 yards out to give the home fans some ray of hope.
Zakaria Mumuni, Elvis Opoku (brace), Bright Adjei and Sam Adams (brace) all scored for Stars, while Josee Adrian netted for Juniors.
“It’s good we scored a lot of goals but I was amazed by the spirited performance the boys displayed,” Abubakar said.
“We had a lot of chances in our previous games but we couldn’t score so we worked more on goal scoring and I hope it will be consistent going forward.
“I told them this match was going to be a character match. They had to show their character and mental toughness.
“I didn’t do a lot of board work for this game and truly they showed the character and won the game. I will make sure they continue with this character.”
Stars will play Madagascar’s Fosa Juniors for the second match of their playoff round tie in ten days time, with the return set for April 18.
