Barcelona won their 30th “King’s Cup” in Spain on Saturday which also happens to be their fourth in a row, while the English FA Cup will be settled by Manchester United and Chelsea, after an end to week that has seen Napoli win in Turin and reopen the fight for the “scudetto”.
After an embarrassing display in the UEFA Champions League, the Spanish league leaders vomited fire to their Andalusian rivals, Sevilla in the final, with a convincing 5-0, a result that did not occur in the Copa del Rey final in Spain since 1915. The former UEFA Europa league Champions had no answer and had a great protagonist: Andrés Iniesta.
Iniesta, who at 33 years old has surely played his last Spanish Cup as it is expected that in the next few days he will announce his departure at the end of the season to Chinese football, he put his magic on the lawn of Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano in a great choral performance of his team.
And being changed, four minutes from the end, Iniesta won the charismatic ovation of the night from both sides of the supporters.
A brace from the Uruguayan Luis Suarez, in addition to the goals of one Leo Messi also at a high level (two assists), that cited Iniesta and the Brazilian Philippe Coutinho (penalty) scored from the spot to make it a perfect night for the 23,000 Catalans who were gathered at the Stadium.
Vincenzo Montella’s Sevilla had little to show from the initial whistle and were seen very inferior and, with the passage of minutes, became “very small.”
In LaLiga, with Barcelona-Villarreal and Sevilla-Barcelona postponed to May 9 for the final match, the highlight was the goalless draw of Betis in the Atlético de Madrid field, reinforcing Beti’s fifth place, while the Madrileño stays second.
England also had a mixed session: FA Cup semi-finals and thirty-fourth day of Premier.
In the FA Cup already there are finalists: Manchester United of Jose Mourinho and Chelsea of Antonio Conte, two consummate enemies. The two main league disappointments, much more on the “Citizen” side.
United prevailed in the first semi final match against Tottenham Hotspur (2-1) of the Argentine Mauricio Pochettino, thanks to a decisive one of the Spaniard Ander Herrera (62nd min).
He did it with comeback, as the London team came early with his “jewel” Dele Alli (11th). But the Chilean Alexis Sánchez (named as the best player of the match) took responsibility and, first, equalized in a header (24min); and, later, closed by Ander Herrera to make it 2-1.
In the final they will see Mourinho with Conte with which, of course, do not maintain good relations. And Chelsea is accessing its second consecutive FA Cup final after defeating Southampton 2-0, thanks to goals from French Olivier Giroud and Spanish Álvaro Morata.
In the Premier, disappointment of a Liverpool that with the mind in the next semifinal of the Champions League did not pass the tie in his visit to bottom West Brom (2-2), after wasting in the last eleven minutes a favorable 0-2 , and with decisive local goal of the Venezuelan José Rondón (m.88).
Mere proceeding for the already, mathematically, Manchester City champion Pep Guardiola, who thrashed Swansea (5-0, a goal by Gabriel Jesus); and walk of the Arsenal on the West Ham (4-1), in the first party from the announcement of which Arsene Wenger will leave to the “Gunners” at the end of campaign, after 22 years to the front of the equipment.
The Scudetto is reopened. Napoli assaulted Turin with a win in the 90th minute goal that gave them the victory against Juventus (0-1) and remain only one point away, four days from the end.
The hero for the Neapolitans, was the French-Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly, with an impressive header after corner kick.
The others who also won are Rome and Lazio, as did Inter.AC Milan fell at home against bottom placed Benevento (0-1) and, for now, is out of European qualification zone.
The French League, with the title for days already for Paris Saint Germain, sees the reopening of the fight for second place direct to the Champions League after the defeat of Monaco by Radamel Falcao against Guingamp (3-1).
The Monegasque team remains second, but with a single point of advantage over Lyon, which is home to Dijon (2-5), and Marseille, which also overwhelmed Lille (5-1).
Germany and others
In the Budesliga everything is the same. The champion Bayer Munich, despite having “in mind” the semifinal duel of the Champions League against Real Madrid, won in Hannover (0-3).
In the fight for second place, Borussia Dortmund, with their triumph against Bayer Leverkusen (4-0), is close to two points behind Schalke, who drew in Cologne (2-2).
The Greek Superleague is already theoretically owner, the AEK Athens of the Spanish Manuel Jiménez, who won the Levadiakos (2-0). With two games remaining, he takes eight points from Paok Salónica, who was punished with three points less because of what happened days before the Athenian team. But there is a Thessalonian club resource.
In Turkey the excitement continues on high. Four days from the end, they won the first three, with the leader Galatasaray a point ahead of Besiktas and Basaksehir.
Holland also has a Cup champion. Veteran striker Robin Van Persie led Feyenoord, who beat AZ Alkmaar (3-0) in the final of a competition that the Rotterdam team won for the thirteenth time in their history. EFE
