ISAAC DOGBOE MAKES HISTORY AFTER KNOCKING DOWN MEXICO’S JESSIE MAGDALENO

Isaac Dogboe has made another history as he becomes Ghana’s youngest ever boxing champion after knocking out Jessie Magdaleno in Philadelphia to become the new WBO super bantamweight title holder.

In a tightly contested fight in which boxers exhibited mutual respect the Ghanaian won by Technical Knock Out in eleven rounds.

 

The opening round saw Dobgoe going down for the first time in his career but was able to come back stronger to defeat his Mexican opponent.

Magdaleno was knocked down once in the 5th and twice in round 11. After the second knockdown, referee Benjy Esteves Jr stopped the fight without a count.

Dogboe led the scorecard from the second round till round eight when Jessie came in but the Ghanaian was too fired to carry the night as he claimed the rounds 9, 10 and finally 11 when he knocked out Magdaleno to win the belt.

Dogboe was ahead on all three official scorecards at the time of the stoppage: 97-91, 96-91 and 95-93. Dogboe landed 172 of 530 punches (33 percent), and Magdaleno landed 104 of 383 (27 percent).

Ghanamansports takes this opportunity to salute Dogboe who has given Ghana’s boxing another life after years in the wilderness.
