TP MAZEMBE GETS OFF WITH A GLITTERING START IN THE GROUP STAGE OF THE CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

TP Mazembe got off to a glittering start in the 2018 CAF Champions League when they mesmerized Algeria’s ES Setif.

Chemseddine Nessakhi‘s goal was not enough for ES Setif as they were downed 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Stade TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi.

Setif started their Group B clash on a low as the Ravens found the back of the net through Ben Malango’s brace and strikes from Elia Meschak and Nathan Sinkala at home.

The victory sees the reigning CAF Confederation Cup champions sitting at the summit of the group with three points.

Mamelodi Sundowns started their CAF Champions League, Group C campaign on a poor note note after playing to a 1-1 draw against Wydad Casablanca at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday night.

In the wake of the stalemate, the visitors now occupy the second spot with one point from a single match in the group.

The Brazilians had a bright start and were on the front foot from the onset as the netted as early as the third minute when a shot from Khama Billiat was blocked, but Sibusiso Vilakazi bundled the ball home off Gaddarine for an own goal.

Wydad fought hard for a response and were dealt a huge blow when Naim Aarab was replaced by Amine Attouchi in the 13th minute due to injury.

Still, in the 20th minute the visitors found an equaliser when Ismail El-Haddad fired home to make it 1-1.

Esperance de Tunis frustrated wasteful Al Ahly in the 2018 CAF Champions League Group A match which ended in a 0-0 draw at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexndria on Friday night.

The draw sees Egyptian giants Al Ahly and Esperance of Tunisia are placed second, and third respectively on the Group A standings after match day one.

The Pharoahs started the match well and they should have grabbed an early lead following a good move in the fourth minute.

Walid Soliman played a good cross for Phakamani Mahlambi, who fired over the crossbar from a promising position.

Difaa El Jadidi drew 1-1 with ten-man MC Alger in their first 2018 CAF Champions League Group B match at the Stade du 6 Juillet 1962 in Algiers on Friday night.
